The porch we're standing on all has to be ripped off... they were going to sheathe the steel columns in AZEK, but I told them it all had to be solid timbers, so that's what they're doing. Also, they had a synthetic railing they were really proud of, but I told them the look and feel (and the connections) were wrong, and they're replacing it with wood railing.

On the interior, I told them what we're hoping to do with a different model cottage, which is to incorporate several of the "Space-Saving Tips" that are in the Emergency House Plans book. For example, wood siding rather than sheetrock can be used on interior walls so that shelves, pegs, or other items can be screwed or nailed to the wall at any point, making the wall a storage device. They said "Why can't we do that on this one?" ... and so, now they are. Actually, it'll be horizontal tongue-and-groove 1x6's above the wainscot, which ends at the window sills, and vertical beaded board below.
